RoHS Compliance
The RoHS Directive 2002/95/EC, developed and adopted by the European Union (EU) in early 2003, establishes the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances that could enter the waste stream and potentially affect the health of human and animal life and the environment. Member states were required to implement the law by August 2004. The product deadline for compliance is July 2006.The RoHS Directive specifically addresses the reduction of use and ultimate banning of the following hazardous substances:
- Cadmium
- Hexavalent Chromium
- Lead
- Mercury
- PBBs (Polybrominated biphenyls)
- PBDEs (Polybrominated diphenyl ethers)
All of California Micro Devices' products that
are designated as "Lead-free" or "Pb-free" conform
to the requirements of the RoHS Directive. For a list of CMD
products that are "Lead-free", click
here.
In addition, CMD products are not manufactured with substances subject
to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that deplete the Ozone Layer.
California Micro Devices has published a signed declaration, the Certification
of Compliance and Chemical Content, summarizing CMD's RoHS compliance.
This document can be viewed here.
This document also lists a number of additional substances not specifically
related to the RoHS directive that are also not used in the manufacture
of CMD devices. These are:
- PCB Polychlorinated Biphenyl and naphthalenes
- Asbestos
- Azo compounds
- Ethylene glycol ethers and related compounds
- Halogenated dioxins and furans
- Ozone depleting substances
- Radioactive substances
California Micro Devices has retained an independent
laboratory to analyze our packaging materials for hazardous substances.
These tests results can be viewed here.
