California Micro Devices introduces the first in a family of general and special purpose low-pass products based on a 4-pole, inductor-based architecture designed to meet the emerging high speed interface requirements of wireless handset applications. The CM1693, based on CMD's Praetorian III® EMI filtering technology, features a patent pending architecture for creating low-pass filters with high cutoff and rolloff frequencies, close-in stop bands, low total line capacitance and very steep attenuation curves. In addition, Praetorian III maintains the stopband over DC bias.
Praetorian III Coupled Inductor Architecture: A New Standard in Performance and Affordability
Praetorian III technology offers a new level of filter performance due to its two layer coupled inductor architecture. By utilizing this structure, Praetorian III devices provide large value inductances which permits the use of lower capacitance Zener diodes, resulting in superior filter characteristics when compared to traditional filter solutions.
Praetorian III Coupled Inductor Advantages
- Steeper attenuation curves at lower frequencies ( RF Performance Curve
) - Lower total line capacitance
- Roll off frequencies at 300MHz typical
- Broad stop band starting in 700MHz band up to 6 GHz
- Minimal insertion loss ( <-1.5dB typical)
- Rise and fall times less than 4ns
- Highest level of ESD protection (up to ±18kV per IEC 61000-4-2 Level 4, contact discharge)
- Silicon-based solution provides robust protection throughout the life of the device
- Compact, low profile 0.40mm pitch uDFN packages
EMI Filtering and ESD Protection Ideal for Applications Requiring Low Signal Distortion
The CM1693 is ideal for wireless applications including wireless handsets, Smartphones and wireless modems built within mobile internet devices due to its compact industry standard uDFN package. The CM1693 is also ideal for EMI filtering and protecting parallel interfaces with clock speeds up to 96MHz and in applications where digital signal integrity is critical, as found on high megapixel cameras, high density removable memory modules and high resolution displays.
Praetorian III Wireless Handset Applications
- CDMA, E-GSM and LTE - Meets attenuation requirements starting in the 700MHz band
- High Speed Interfaces - These interfaces require lower line capacitances, especially with low-drive levels.
- Audio Interfaces - Low resistance and insertion loss preserves signal integrity required for signal fidelity
