CM1406 / CM1407
4 Channel EMI Filter Array with ESD Protection

An optimal EMI+ESD solution for LCD and camera interfaces

Lead-free Solution

Product Overview
California Micro Devices introduces the CM1406 and CM1407 EMI filters with integrated ESD protection and availability in industry standard TDFN packaging. These devices, based on California Micro Devices' Centurion™ advanced zener process technology, are optimally designed for LCD and camera interfaces in clamshell wireless handsets.
The CM1406 and CM1407 are supplied in an industry standard 8-lead, 2mm x 2mm TDFN package. The TDFN package features a large ground pad on the bottom of the device that minimizes parasitic ground inductance and ensures optimal device performance. Both devices are available with optional lead free finishing further recognizing California Micro Devices' commitment to a cleaner environment.

Product Features
Superior Filter Performance for LCD Displays and Camera Imagers
Both the CM1406 and CM1407 are implemented as pi-style capacitor-resistor-capacitor filter (C-R-C) networks. The CM1406 consists of four 15pF-200Ω-15pF networks offering up to 35dB attenuation in the 800MHz to 2.7GHz frequency range. The CM1406 features a cut-off frequency of 105MHz making it ideal for filtering signals to color LCD display and camera imager interfaces operating at up to 40Mbps per data line.

In a similar fashion, the CM1407 comprises four 7.5pF-200Ω-7.5pF (C-R-C) networks offering up to 25dB attenuation in the 800MHz to 3.0GHz frequency range. The CM1407 features a cut-off frequency of 210MHz making it ideal for filtering noisy LCD display interfaces and camera imager interfaces in cell phones, PDAs or notebook computers.

Integrated ESD Protection
Both the CM1406 and CM1407 feature ESD diodes integrated into each filter channel which provide a high level of ESD protection for sensitive electronic components. These diodes are designed and characterized to safely dissipate ESD strikes of ±15kV contact discharge, twice the specification limit of the IEC 6100-4-2, Level 4 international standard. Using the MIL-STD-883 (Method 3015) specification for Human Body Model (HBM) ESD, these devices offer protection for contact discharges at greater than ±30kV.

Small Package Format Ideal for Wireless Handsets
These devices are particularly well suited for portable electronics (e.g. mobile handsets, PDAs, notebook computers) because of their small package format and easy-to-use pin assignments. In addition, the TDFN package design features an integrated ground pad on the bottom of the package, providing a very low inductance ground return path resulting in superior filter and ESD characteristics. As a result, these devices are ideal for EMI filtering and protecting data lines from ESD in wireless handsets.

Product Applications
The CM1406 and CM1407 are suitable for I/O port, data port and LCD interface protection in a number of computing and consumer electronic devices, including:

  • Mobile handsets
  • Cameras
  • Notebook Computers
  • PDAs
