California Micro Devices Expands
Family of DDR Linear Power Solutions Optimized for Digital Consumer
and PC Peripheral Applications
CM3212 Fully Integrated Dual Output
DDR Linear Power Regulator
MILPITAS, Calif., -- Dec. 12, 2006
-- California
Micro Devices (NASDAQ: CAMD), today announced the CM3212 dual output
linear regulator for powering DDR (Double Data Rate) memory in digital
consumer and PC peripheral applications such as digital TVs, set top
boxes, DVD players and game consoles. The CM3212 features the industry’s
highest level of functional integration, lowest cost and smallest design
footprint compared to competing solutions for DDR memory. The CM3212
integrates the VDDQ and VTT power supplies, the VREF voltage supply
and a VTT enable function for implementing “Suspend to Ram”
sleep mode. The integration of these features provides space savings
of up to 78 percent and a 70 percent cost savings.
“Most DDR power solutions were developed for the PC rather than
for digital consumer applications. They are more expensive and provide
higher power than required for a typical set top box or digital TV,”
stated Joe Salvador, director of marketing for computing and digital
consumer products at California Micro Devices. “The CM3212 linear
DDR regulator is the industry’s only power solution optimized
for the unique cost and power requirements of powering DDR memory in
digital consumer products”.
Key Features
The CM3212 provides a fully integrated and
complete power solution for a DDR memory system in digital consumer
electronics and PC peripheral applications. It features two independent
linear regulators for VDDQ and VTT, along with an integrated VREF supply.
With integrated power MOSFETs, the CM3212 can source up to 2A of VDDQ
current, and source or sink up to 2A of VTT current. The typical dropout
voltage for VDDQ is 500mV at 2A load current.
The CM3212 also features an enable VTT pin
for sleep or “Suspend to RAM” mode. The “Suspend to
RAM” mode allows for the DDR memory to be powered while suspending
VTT, reducing overall system power when the system is in standby.
The CM3212 provides fast response to transient
load changes. It integrates overcurrent protection with short circuit
and thermal shutdown for VDDQ and VTT. The device is available in ROHS
compliant lead-free TDFN-8 and SOIC packages.
Pricing and Availability
The CM3212 is sampling now with volume production scheduled for Q1 2007.
The CM3212-02SM (SOIC) is priced at $0.54 and the CM3212-02DE (TDFN)
is priced at $0.59 each in 1,000 unit quantities.
