California Micro Devices
Establishes New Price/Performance Standard
with 0.4mm Pitch Chip Scale Centurion™ EMI Filters
New EMI Filters Deliver Higher Performance,
Reduced Form Factor and
Lower Price Points for Wireless Handsets
MILPITAS, Calif., -- August 30, 2005
-- California
Micro Devices (NASDAQ: CAMD) today introduced a new family of Centurion™-based
ASIP™ (Application Specific Integrated Passive™)
EMI (electromagnetic interference) filter arrays, offering superior EMI
filtering performance combined with robust ESD (electrostatic discharge)
protection in reduced form factor, 0.4 mm pitch Chip Scale Packages (CSP).
The introduction of these new Centurion™ ASIP™
devices redefines existing price/performance standards for EMI filters
used to filter and protect LCD display, camera module and dataport interfaces
in mobile handset applications. They deliver the highest levels of EMI
filter and ESD performance in form factors that are more than 30% smaller
than existing 0.5mm pitch CSP products. Additionally, the new fine pitch
CSP ASIP™ devices are priced to offer significant savings
when compared to 0.5mm CSP ASIP™ devices and equivalent
solutions housed in TDFN packages.
With the penetration of advanced multimedia capabilities increasing drastically
in wireless handsets, finding space to allow the integration of additional
modules is becoming more and more challenging for platform designers.
In parallel, data interface rates for the handset’s LCD display
and camera module interfaces are increasing significantly as the pixel
resolution of these components increases. Handset designs featuring these
high speed parallel data interfaces face more challenging EMI filtering
and ESD protection issues. In order to satisfy these requirements, CMD
has raised the bar in terms of form factor and performance by delivering
a new family of 0.4mm pitch CSP EMI filter ASIP™ devices
with ESD protection. The new CM1440, CM1441 and CM1442, developed in CMD’s
Centurion™ process, offer a high level of EMI filtering
performance for various capacitance budgets and channel configurations
in order to address a broad range of requirements and applications in
the smallest form factor available on the market.
Key Features
The CM1440, CM1441 and CM1442 EMI filters with
ESD protection are based on a 2-pole C-R-C filter architecture. The electrical
parameters of these products are summarized below:
| Configuration 2-pole C-R-C |
# of Channels | Attenuation @ 900MHz |
Attenuation 800MHz-2.7GHz |
Cutoff Frequency |
|
| CM1440-06 | 30pF-100Ohms-30pF | 6 EMI/ESD | -42dB | -35dB | 60MHz |
| CM1441-07 | 30pF-100Ohms-30pF | 4 EMI/ESD + 4 ESD |
-42dB | -35dB | 60MHz |
| CM1442-06 | 15pF-100Ohms-15pF | 6 EMI/ESD | -33dB | -32dB | 120MHz |
| CM1442-08 | 15pF-100Ohms-15pF | 8 EMI/ESD | -33dB | -32dB | 120MHz |
With
fast cutoff frequencies, steep roll-offs and deep attenuation, these new
products are ideal for filtering display and camera module interfaces
operating at data rates up to 25MHz. In addition to filtering, these products
also feature ESD protection up to ±15kV contact discharge per IEC61000-4-2
Level 4 specification.
Ultra Compact Footprint
This new product family demonstrates CMD’s
commitment to help wireless handset designers solve key implementation
issues such as minimizing board space and optimizing the overall system
robustness against EMI radiation and ESD strikes. The CM1440, CM1441 and
CM1442 EMI filters are offered in the industry’s smallest form factor,
and contribute to a space savings of up to 42% when compared to existing
TDFN solutions, and greater than 30% when compared to 0.5mm CSP solutions.
CMD’s new fine pitch CSP ASIP™ devices feature a
combination of EMI filtering performance and ESD protection that cannot
be met by discrete components, ceramic-based products or even similar
ASIP™ architectures housed in TDFN packages.
Pricing and Availability
The CM1440, CM1441 and CM1442 are available for sampling immediately.
Production for both families is scheduled for Q3 2005. Pricing starts
at $0.36 each in 1,000 unit quantities for the six channel version and
$0.42 each in 1,000 unit quantities for the eight channel version. CMD
can apply its proprietary OptiGuard™ technology to all
of its CSP products to increase robustness and durability during placement
on PCBs in the manufacturing process. These products are available in
RoHS compliant lead free CSP.
